Thank You
THANK YOU to everyone who has visited this memorial website and shared their memories and appreciation of Chief Schaub. It has been read by hundreds of people around the world that Chief knew and loved, and your comments have been of great comfort to Chief's family and friends and fellow Airmen. I will maintain this site for several months (at least), and will at some point print out all of the memories and present to Debbie in an album. Thank you all.

Chief Schaub was a mentor and a true leader! I was lucky to know and work with the chief for the past year! I could also count on him to give me sound advice and to steer me in the right direction when I needed something. Chief looked out for all and he really looked out for me! He did something that he did not have to do, when my enlisted evaluation report was do, I was eligible to receive a senior rater endorsement but I had not finished my CCAF degree (I was finishing my last class for it) and I had not completed the SNCOA correspondence course. Chief knew I was working hard to complete these and he fought hard at the wing level to ensure that I got my endorsement. This showed me how much Chief loved the Air Force and loved the people he work with! I will miss Chief, but his memory will live on in me! I can only hope that I will be as Great a Senior NCO as Chief was!

Debbie,
It is with heavy hearts and deep, deep sorrow that we are writing today. Terri and I were in shock and disbelief when you called to tell us of Bill’s death. As you know, Bill and I worked very closely on many projects at Eielson. He was one of the closest friend I had made during my entire career.
We were looking forward to coming to Montana to attend Bill’s retirement. I had joked with him recently about making sure it would be in the summer time, but we would have been there whenever it was.
When we were at Eielson, Bill would typically read the poem “My Last Parade” at most of the retirement ceremonies and would always get a little choked up towards the end. I’ve always wanted to read that poem for him at his ceremony. Instead, I have modified the poem for him.
Let the bugle blow
Let the march be played
With the forming of the troops
For my last parade
The years of wars, and the years of waiting
Obedience to orders, unhesitating
Years in the states, and the years overseas
All woven in a web… of memories
A lifetime of service passes in review
As many good friends and exotic places too
In the waning sunlight begin to fade
With martial music of my last parade
My last salute to the service and base
Now someone else will take my place
To the sharp young soldiers marching away
I gladly pass the orders of the day
I served my country and my Lord
Now it’s time to go to my great reward
Taps has been played
To rest I’ve been laid
My eternity has begun
Farewell my dear friend, you will be missed.
As deeply saddened we are by Bill’s death we can’t help but rejoice for him. He lived his life for this day. To think that he no longer has to worry about his hearing – it is now perfect, he no longer has to worry about his eye sight – it is now perfect, he no longer has to worry about his blood pressure – it is now perfect.
Bill’s time on earth was much shorter than we would have liked, but we know God’s timing is always perfect. He touched more lives than he will ever know.
Bill and I ate countless meals together at the dining hall at Eielson and I don’t know how much time I have left in this world, but I do know when God calls me home, Bill will have saved me a seat at the King’s table.
Our prayers are with you Debbie. Please don’t hesitate to call if we can help you in any way.

I just found out about this today, 4 Oct, and I am stunned and saddened by this news.
Others will have said all the the right things to say about this man.
I will say simply that I considered Bill a decent, caring, and unselfish friend. THis is truely a loss that I find hard to bear.
He was and remains a tribute to the Enlisted men and women of the USAF.
He served with honor and dignity.
I will miss him.
Deb, Annata and I will be sure to have a Novena said for Bill. ANd our prayers go out to you and the rest of the family. I only wish I could have attended the service.
