Today marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of CMSgt Bill Schaub. It is hard to believe that it has been a year since we last saw Chief's smiling face and heard his encouraging, happy voice.

Several weeks ago we dedicated our large assembly room in honor of the Chief, marking the occasion with a small celebration of his life and service. We have a plaque and the "medic's prayer" hanging on the wall to remember the Chief.

Just checking in...there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of Chief, and what a good man, great Chief, and wonderful friend he was. His loss still resonates throughout the Med Group.

And for those who have asked: Debbie seems to be doing well. We honored her and the memory of Chief at our annual christmas party, and Debbie was surrounded by friends who really are "family" now. Debbie, in her kindness, donated a large sum towards our party to ensure that everyone - every Airman - could attend, and it was indeed a happy occasion for all.

Thank you to everyone who has visited this site and shared their memories of Chief; it is comforting - to all of us - to know how beloved and respected he was, and that he will never be forgotten.

THANK YOU to everyone who has visited this memorial website and shared their memories and appreciation of Chief Schaub. It has been read by hundreds of people around the world that Chief knew and loved, and your comments have been of great comfort to Chief's family and friends and fellow Airmen. I will maintain this site for several months (at least), and will at some point print out all of the memories and present to Debbie in an album. Thank you all.

Chief Master Sergeant Bill Schaub passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2006.

At the time of his passing, he was serving proudly and happily in the United States Air Force as the Superintendent of the 341st Medical Group at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana; he had just days ago re-committed to continued service, telling his friends and co-workers that he loved his job, loved the people he worked with, and that he had the "best job in the Air Force Medical Service." He was far too young and happy to leave us. If you would like to share your thoughts or memories of Chief Schaub, please leave a comment here for his wife and family and friends to see. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, at Malmstrom Air Force Base.

CMSgt William W. Schaub is the Superintendent, 341st Medical Group, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana.
